| College Tip of the Day |
|
1) Although its nice to have class back to back to get them out of the way for the day, reconsider because it can be an overload of information at once and you miss the best times to study, right before and after class.
2) Go to the first day of class prepared to take notes. 3) Study. An hour-long class should consist of two hours studying. Go to class each day as if you were going to have a pop quiz. Stay up on your syllabus, your professor may not go over it daily and you may have assignments due. 4) Find a place where you can study. Use a desk and not your bed where you may be tempted to take a nap. Use good lighting and have all the supplies you may need. 5) Study during the day, so you are awake and not tempted to crash for the night. 6) Schedule breaks. Take short breaks in between studying so you don’t overwhelm yourself with information. 7) Use the library. Also look into labs, tutors, computer programs, videos and anything else the campus makes available at your fingertips. Get to know your professors and don’t be afraid to ask questions. 8) Find students to study with. If you are the type of person that needs to study alone, does that first, then meet up with a group for a review session. That way if you missed something, or your answers don’t match up you can look up the answers together. 9) Study the hardest subject first to get it out of the way. Saving the hardest till last may cause you not to study as much because you will be tired of studying all together. 10) Stay healthy. Pulling an all-nighter to study for a final is not healthy by any means. 11) Go on campus tours. You’ll learn things that you never knew were on the campus that might be a valuable resource to you. 12) Volunteer on campus. It’s a good way to meet new people and contribute to your community. 13) Buy your textbooks used at the bookstore or shop online for cheaper prices. At the end of the semester sell them back. 14) Apply for any scholarship you can. The more you apply, the better your chances are of getting one. 15) If you know you aren’t going be successful in a class, drop it during add/drop period. Pick up something that fits better into your schedule where you know you’ll succeed 16) Use your student ID. You can get discounts to movies, stores, museums, bars and even restaurants. 17) Joins clubs and organizations. You’ll find ones that fit your major and areas of interest so you can meet new people and learn new things. 18) Go to the student union. There are an abundance of resources available to you in your student union such as tutors, past exams and course content facilities, scholarship opportunities and more. 19) Don’t plagiarize. Don’t use your best friend’s paper from last semester or something taken off the web. Do your own work and be proud of it. 20) Read. Read any and all assignments. The familiarity with books will improve your grammar, spelling, and communication skills. 21) Research the professors before signing up for the class. Often times you will hear recommendations from others about professors that taught the class well and want to sign up. 22) Join the Armed Forces. Support and educational expenses are made available to you and you’ll gain additional education if you join. 23) Read the school newspaper. You will find all sorts of job postings, furniture for sale, and so forth that may be of use to you. 24) Don’t walk alone on campus late at night. Call for a ride or walk with a friend, you never can be too safe. 25) Wear comfortable clothes to class, and bring a sweater or jacket in case the building is air conditioned, that way you won’t be uncomfortable and still be able to pay attention. 26) Be sure to lock your doors to your car if parking on campus to avoid theft. 27) Bring an umbrella in case of any unexpected rain showers. 28) Turn off your cell phone while in class to avoid any distractions. 29) Sit up close so you can hear the professor and read his notes well. 30) Don’t sit next to your friend if you know he/she is going to talk the whole time. Sit alone or somewhere quiet so you won’t be distracted. |
